Low Contrast Light

quality of light in the eye of the beholder

LEDs are point light sources with high luminance. Although this provides good illumination, it can also cause glare. To counteract this problem, TRILUX has developed Low Contrast Light technology (LCL). This is used to increase the luminance around the LED.

This reduces the impression of glare without reducing the brightness, and without significantly changing the light distribution. In this way a particularly harmonious perception of light is achieved.

THE ADVANTAGES

Pleasant light for residential streets, paths and squares: In TRILUX outdoor luminaires with Low Contrast Light technology, the light is specifically coupled in a light-conducting plate. This reduces the impression of glare and thus ensures particularly pleasant visual conditions in outdoor areas. Low Contrast Light increases safety for all road users, whether on foot, on a cycle or in a car.

The light is also remarkably uniform and pleasant and enhances the public space. The improved quality of stay has a positive effect on people’s length of stay.

Low Contrast Light technology is already available for the Lumantix and ConStela 19 luminaire ranges.

More
sustainability

Low Contrast Light technology makes optimum use of the light from the LEDs by actively coupling in light components. This improves the visual comfort and reduces light pollution (#DarkSky).

More visual comfort
and safety

The improved visual comfort increases the safety of all road users. Low Contrast Light is therefore an important building block for safe interaction between people outdoors.

Reduced glare sensation

Low Contrast Light technology reduces the sensation of glare in the eye by reducing the brightness contrast between the LEDs and their direct surroundings.

The principle of Low Contrast Light technology

The sensation of glare in the eye is not only caused by the absolute brightness of a point of light itself – but also by an excessively high brightness contrast between the point of light and its direct surroundings. If the adjacent light intensities are too different, the direct light reaction (constriction of the pupil) slows down and the optic nerve is overstimulated. The Low Contrast Light technology counteracts this without reducing the brightness.

For this purpose, light components of the LEDs are directed via the primary optic into a light-conducting plate in the optical system. This luminous surface reduces the contrast between the LED light points and the adjacent areas – thus achieving particularly pleasant light with reduced glare.

We are familiar with this phenomenon from everyday life: the high beam of an approaching vehicle is less dazzling during the day than at night.

Low Contrast Light technology is already available in our Lumantix luminaire range (classic-, cylinder-, indirect luminaire and conical lantern) and in ConStela 19. The light distribution curve of the luminaires is perfectly adapted to the specific application using MLTIQ lenses (Multi-Lens Technology). It changes only minimally as a result of the Low Contrast Light technology, while visual comfort increases.

Enhance residential streets, squares and paths
with Low Contrast Light

High quality of light is not only relevant to safety, but also an important feel-good factor. TRILUX luminaires with Low Contrast Light reduce the impression of glare and thus improve visual comfort and safety for all road users. At the same time, the high quality light improves the quality of stay on streets, paths and squares.

Low Contrast Light

for particularly pleasant light

Low Contrast Light is an intelligent technology for reducing the perception of glare. In LCL luminaires, a light component of the LEDs is specifically directed via the primary optic into a light-conducting plate in the optical system. This luminous surface reduces the contrast between the LEDs and their direct surroundings, which means the impression of glare is lowered and visual comfort is increased. Low Contrast Light is currently available in the Lumantix luminaire range and in ConStela 19.
